After being invited to testify, Congresswoman Jenkins released the following statement: “I am proud to stand up for rural healthcare against Medicare’s unreasonable and inflexible direct supervision requirement that will hurt Critical Access Hospitals and other rural hospitals. The job of the government is to increase folks’ access to healthcare, not add more hoops for providers to jump through, straining the resources of CAHs. I look forward to testifying before the committee to help shine a light on the problems that would face rural healthcare providers if this rule was enforced. There can be no place in government for Medicare regulations that prevent rural communities from having access to the healthcare they need.” Items To Note - This Congress, Congresswoman Jenkins introduced H.R. 2878, which would prevent enforcement of the Medicare direct supervision rule. - The Kansas Hospital Association, National Rural Health Association and American Hospital Association all support this bill. - Similar legislation was introduced by Congresswoman Jenkins in the 113th Congress and signed into law by the President on December 4, 2014.
