Jenn Kiggans (VA-02), to preserve America\u2019s historic battlefields as the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of its founding.\n\nThe American Battlefield Protection Program Amendments Act of 2026 extends federal funding for the American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) through 2036. The program provides grants to help preserve and restore historically significant battlefields from the American Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and American Civil War.\n\n\u201cWe must preserve these sacred sites and honor the brave Americans who fought on our soil to secure our nation\u2019s freedom,\u201d said Magaziner. \u201cI am proud to help pass this important legislation so future generations can learn from, honor, and experience the places where history was made and so many sacrificed for our country.\u201d\n\nThe American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) is currently authorized through fiscal year 2028. This legislation extends authorization for an additional eight years, providing $20 million annually through 2036.\n\nThe legislation supports continued education and preservation efforts through the American Battlefield Land Acquisition Grants Program, a matching grant program that helps protect historically significant battlefields from the American Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and American Civil War.\n\nIn addition, the bill directs the National Park Service to study opportunities to preserve significant battlefields from the French and Indian War and the Mexican-American War.\n\nThe bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.", 1, "2026-06-27T21:44:12Z", "2026-06-27T22:11:26Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://magaziner.house.gov/media/press-releases/magaziner-kiggans-bill-preserve-us-battlefields-passed-house-representatives"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7054060697555542, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
