Magaziner Announces 2023 Congressional Art Competition Winner", "2023-06-02", "2023", "2023-06", "Democrat", "House", "RI", "Seth Magaziner", "M001223", "magaziner.house.gov", "magaziner", "https://magaziner.house.gov/media/press-releases", "scraper", "Warwick, R.I. \u2013 Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) announced the winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition at an award ceremony honoring young artists from Rhode Island\u2019s 2nd Congressional District.\n\n\u201cThis year, my office received over 50 drawings, paintings, and photographs that explored the unique stories and cultural traditions of Rhode Islanders \u2014 and I'm completely blown away by the talent of the young people in our state.\u201d said Representative Magaziner. \u201cI want to congratulate Gwen Ruffolo for winning this year\u2019s Congressional Art Competition, and thank each and every one of these young artists who shared their personal stories and artistic ability in this year\u2019s competition.\u201d\n\nEach spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative\u2019s office, and panels of local artists select the winning entries. One winner from each district is recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
