{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://maloney.house.gov/media-center/in-the-news/house-panels-launch-probe-into-massive-cyberattack-that-breached-federal", "House panels launch probe into massive cyberattack that breached federal agencies", "2020-12-17", "2020", "2020-12", "Democrat", "Senate", "NY", "Carolyn Maloney", "M000087", "maloney.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Two key House panels on Thursday announced a joint investigation into the massive cyberattack that has impacted multiple federal agencies, in what may be one of the most damaging digital intrusions in years.\nHomeland Security Committee ChairmanBennie Thompson(D-Miss.) andOversight and Reform Committee ChairwomanCarolyn Maloney(D-N.Y.) informed top intelligence officials that they will be probing thebreachofSolarWindssystems, which then ledthe Commerce and Treasury departments also fellvictimtothe intrusions.\nThe State Department and the National Institutes of Healthwere also impactedin the breach, according to The Washington Post, and the list is growing.\nOur Committees are seeking information related to the apparent, widespread compromise of multiple federal government, critical infrastructure, and private sector information technology networks, the chairs wrote in their letter to theleaders of the FBI, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).\nWhile investigations and technical forensic analyses are still ongoing, based on preliminary reporting, it is evident that this latest cyber intrusion could have potentially [devastating] consequences for U.S. national security, it reads.\nSome reports have suggested that hackers working for Russia were monitoring the email traffic at Treasury and Commerce departments. Moscow has deniedinvolvement in the intrusions.\nDHS's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a rare emergency directive this week that ordersfederal agencies to disconnect or power down SolarWinds Orion products  from their network[s].\nThe full impact of the hack is still beingassessed.\nThe two committees are asking FBI Director Christopher Wray, DNIJohn Ratcliffe, and DHS SecretaryChad Wolffor a classified briefing on Friday about the hack and the extent of its fallout.\nFireEye, a major cybersecurity firm, was also hacked and it uncovered,through its ownprobe,that SolarWinds was hit inthe intrusion.\nSolarWinds, which makes network management software, represents a long list of big-name clients, from the White House and various federal agencies, to major banks and Fortune 500 companies.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://maloney.house.gov/media-center/in-the-news/house-panels-launch-probe-into-massive-cyberattack-that-breached-federal"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4414782635867596, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
