As the Representative for the Big First District, Rep. Mann has the privilege of offering military academy nominations to the five U.S. service academies for students in the district. The interviews took place at the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kansas.\n\n\u201cIt is always an honor to host the military academy selection committee and potential military academy candidates in the childhood hometown of five-star U.S. Army General, President Dwight D. Eisenhower,\u201d said Rep. Mann. \u201cThe students we met reflect the best of Kansas, and their aspirations to serve our country give me hope for a bright future in America. I enjoyed getting to know them and I wish them all the best. I also owe a debt of gratitude to the panel for lending their expertise and unique perspectives to the selection process.\u201d\n\nRep. Mann appointed a panel of five Kansans from the Big First District who have extensive experience in either U.S. military service or working closely with the military. The five person-panel included:\n\nMary Eisenhower, former President and CEO of People to People International and granddaughter of President Eisenhower\n\nAJ Kuhle, U.S. Air Force Academy alumnus and U.S. Air Force veteran\n\nJoseph McCarville, West Point alumnus, retired Reno County District Court Judge, and U.S. Army veteran\n\nMichael Utz, retired Garden City Police Chief and U.S. Air Force veteran\n\nLt. General (Ret.)Perry Wiggins, former Commanding General of United States Army North and Ft. Riley\u2019s 1st Infantry Division\n\nThirteen high school students in the district applied for a military academy nomination through Rep. Mann's office. In the coming weeks, the panel will notify the students whom they have chosen to receive these competitive nominations.\n\nRep.
