Miller", "M001211", "marymiller.house.gov", "marymiller", "https://marymiller.house.gov/media/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) and the Republican Leader of the Education and Labor Committee, Virginia Foxx (R-NC) sent a letter to President Biden's Education Secretary Miguel Cardona demanding transparency surrounding the agency\u2019s reinterpretation of Title IX, which puts students at greater risk of sexual assault.\n\nThe Department of Justice\u2019s recent memo to the FBI justified its investigation of parents concerned about their child\u2019s education and safety in part due to a sexual assault case in Virginia.\n\nThe child\u2019s father \u2013 not the child who sexually assaulted another student \u2013 was subjected to police action for raising concerns at his daughter\u2019s school. These parents are now being labeled \u201cdomestic terrorists\u201d by groups supported by the Biden administration.\n\nIn the letter, the Members write: \u201cWe are deeply concerned with recent reports of sexual assaults in our public schools, which exemplify the misguided nature of the Department of Education\u2019s (Department) interpretation of Title IX. The interpretation endangers young girls by putting their rights and needs second to the political agenda of the Biden administration.\u201d\n\nThe Members continue: \u201cThe lack of transparency regarding the safety of children at school is alarming. Parents should know what is happening in their schools and have confidence that school administrators are keeping their children safe\u2026 We know that we cannot stop all cases of assault in our schools, but we should take commonsense precautions to work together with parents to protect our children.\u201d\n\nThe Members conclude: \u201c[T]he Trump administration issued regulations outlining schools\u2019 responsibilities for investigating sexual assault allegations under Title IX.
