McAdams and Utah Senator Mitt Romney have introduced the Time to Rescue United States' Trusts (TRUST) Act (H.R. 4907) in the House and Senate.\r\rWithout legislative action, the government's vital trust funds Highway, Medicare Hospital Insurance, and Social Securitywill be exhausted in the next 13 years.\r\rMillions of Americans depend on the benefits they've earned through Social Security and Medicare programs over a lifetime of hard work, said McAdams. We owe it to them and to future generations to carefully consider the options that will ensure we protect and strengthen these programs. Republicans and Democrats must engage in a serious conversation about how we keep the promises we've made about aging with dignity in our country. We can't keep these promises without working together to get our fiscal house in order.\r\rHow the TRUST Act works:\r\r \r\tThe Treasury Department would have 45 days upon passage of the legislation to deliver to Congress a report of the government's major, endangered federal trust funds.\r\tCongressional leaders would appoint members to serve on Rescue Committeesone per trust fundwith the mandate to draft legislation that restores solvency and otherwise improves each trust fund program.\r\tRescue Committees would ensure bipartisan consensus by requiring at least two members of each party to report legislation.\r\tIf a Rescue Committee reports a qualifying bill for its trust fund program, it would receive expedited consideration in both chambers.\r \r\rThe TRUST Act is supported by other organizations, including the following: Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, Americans for Prosperity, Bipartisan Policy Center, Brookings Institution, Concord Coalition, and FreedomWorks.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://mcadams.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=78"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8784311357885599, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
