McBride Slams the President, Congressional Republicans for \u201cGangsters\u2019 Tactics\u201d During Government Shutdown", "2025-10-22", "2025", "2025-10", "Democrat", "House", "DE", "Sarah McBride", "M001238", "mcbride.house.gov", "mcbride", "https://mcbride.house.gov/media/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 In case you missed it, earlier this month Representative Sarah McBride, Delaware\u2019s Congresswoman, spoke with WDEL about the ongoing government shutdown and the consequences of Republican leadership refusing to negotiate an end to the lapse in appropriations.\n\nMcBride, speaking with WDEL\u2019s Rachel Suga, assured Delawareans that her office remains ready to assist constituents and spoke about how she has been connecting with people who have written in to learn more about their situation.\n\n\u201cMy office is running on all cylinders,\u201d said McBride. \u201cOur constituent advocates are continuing to take requests and help people with their needs\u2014whether it\u2019s backlogged tax returns, Social Security checks, or veterans\u2019 benefits.\n\n\u201c...I\u2019ve been on the phone with Delawareans who\u2019ve reached out to share how the shutdown and this health care crisis are affecting them.\u201d\n\nCongresswoman McBride and her colleagues continue to demand that Republicans negotiate an extension of ACA enhanced premium tax credits\u2014noting that without an extension, thousands of Delawareans will see their premiums spike up to 200%.\n\nThe government shutdown, now in its fourth week, has forced many federal workers into furloughed status with the Trump administration recently suggesting that these employees are not entitled to backpay. McBride asserts that this is an illegal attempt at intimidation.\n\n\u201cThis president is lying, is threatening to steal from federal workers, states, and nonprofits in order to get his way,\u201d McBride noted. \u201cBut the people of Delaware and their elected representatives won\u2019t be intimidated into this president\u2019s every whim based on threats that are illegal and immoral.\u201d\n\nFollow WDEL reporting here: Rep.
