Lisa McClain\u2019s (R-Mich.) legislation, the Sanctioning Tyrannical and Oppressive People within the Chinese Communist Party (STOP CCP) Act. The bill imposes financial and visa sanctions on Xi Jinping and other members of the CCP.\n\n\u201cThe Chinese Communist Party is our greatest geopolitical threat and a direct danger to our democratic way of life,\u201d said McClain. \u201cLeveling sanctions against Xi Jinping and the CCP leadership not only addresses their heinous acts, but also targets the actual individuals who are giving the orders. While the Biden-Harris administration stands idly by, it\u2019s time we draw a line in the sand and say, enough is enough.\u201d\n\nThe sanctions enacted by the legislation may be waived by the President only when the CCP has ceased its aggressive behavior towards Taiwan, political oppression of Hong Kong, genocide of ethnic minority groups, and attempts to steal U.S. intellectual property. The sanctions can also be waived if the sanctioned person renounces their membership in the CCP and takes steps to condemn or repair the CCP\u2019s oppressive policies.\n\nMcClain introduced the STOP CCP Act in May 2023, and the bill was approved by the House Foreign Affairs Committee in March.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-07T21:43:57Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://mcclain.house.gov/2024/9/mcclain-bill-to-sanction-xi-and-ccp-passes-house"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 45.93909531831741, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
