(February 23, 2024) \u2013 Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement on the Alabama Supreme Court\u2019s ruling to afford frozen embryos the same protection as children under the state\u2019s \u201cWrongful Death of a Minor Act\u201d:\n\n\u201cThe Alabama Supreme Court\u2019s extreme right-wing ruling defies common sense, contradicts medical standards of care, and lacks basic sympathy for people struggling to start a family. It\u2019s insane. You can\u2019t call yourself a family values party and make it harder for people to have children,\u201d said Rep. McGarvey. \u201cUnfortunately, we shouldn\u2019t be surprised. When the conservative-controlled Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, women and girls in Kentucky lost their right to have an abortion \u2014 even in cases of rape and incest. There have been cases across the country where women suffering from miscarriages are criminally charged for going to the doctor and seeking care. And now, families in Alabama will suffer the consequences of this devastating ruling \u2014 potentially making it impossible for people struggling with infertility to have more children or start a family.
