(December 2, 2025) \u2013 Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey sent a letter to Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner, calling out the Trump administration\u2019s callous decision to slash 70 percent of federal funding for Continuum of Care (CoC) programs that help Kentuckians facing homelessness find stable, long-term housing.\n\nMcGarvey described the plan, first outlined in HUD\u2019s FY25 Notice of Funding Opportunity last month, as \u201cdangerous and short-sighted,\u201d leaving \u201cvulnerable communities without options and organizations without time to adapt.\u201d In Jefferson County alone, that community includes 950 people who rely on the housing funds from 13 CoC grants.\n\n\u201cWe\u2019re seeing absolutely freezing temperatures in Kentucky right now, and it\u2019s unnerving that as a country we would turn a blind eye to our neighbors in need,\u201d said McGarvey. \u201cWe\u2019re talking about families with children, survivors of domestic violence, and our nation\u2019s veterans getting turned away from a place to sleep at night and escape the cold because of this administration\u2019s callous decision to make more Americans homeless.\u201d\n\nMcGarvey explained that HUD\u2019s proposed plan would create major funding gaps for the district\u2019s federally funded housing supports, which are already facing significant setbacks from budget cuts and a shortage of affordable housing.\n\nToday\u2019s letter follows previous outreach to HUD in November when McGarvey and his colleagues called on the agency to work with Congress to appropriate the resources Americans need this winter.\n\nRead today\u2019s letter here.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T20:09:11Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://mcgarvey.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-mcgarvey-condemns-trump-administrations-immoral-decision-to-slash-federal-funds-for-housing-assistance-as-kentucky-sees-freezing-conditions"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.3003780040889978, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
