(March 12, 2024) \u2013 Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) announced the launch of the Congressional Art Competition for high school aged students in Kentucky\u2019s Third Congressional District.\n\n\u201cIt\u2019s no surprise to anyone that Louisville high schoolers are incredibly talented,\u201d said Rep McGarvey. \u201cEvery year, the Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity to showcase this talent and highlight the many gifted young artists in our city. I\u2019m excited to announce the launch of this year\u2019s competition, and I\u2019m looking forward to seeing the winning piece\u2014a little reminder of my hometown\u2014every time I walk to the Capitol.\u201d\n\nThe annual bipartisan Congressional Art Competition celebrates the artistic achievements of our nation\u2019s high school students. The winning artwork from each congressional district hangs in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year. The U.S. House of Representatives\u2019 441 Representatives and Delegates rush through this tunnel every day the House is in session, to vote on a bill or attend a key committee hearing, while the House\u2019s 6,000 staffers take millions of visitors and constituents through this tunnel annually. Having a piece of artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol is a significant achievement for any artist.\n\nInterested parties should complete the 2024 3rd District Congressional Art Competition submission form by April 22nd.\n\nThe artwork must be two-dimensional. Each framed artwork can be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive in Washington, D.C., framed. Even when framed, it must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions. No framed piece should weigh more than 15 pounds.\n\nAccepted mediums for the two-dimensional artwork are as follows:\n\nPaintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.\n\nDrawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)\n\nCollages: must be two dimensional\n\nPrints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints\n\nMixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.\n\nComputer-generated art\n\nPhotographs\n\nEach entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws.
