Chartered in 1798, the University of Louisville is the city\u2019s preeminent research university and has been a source of pride and progress for the community for over 200 years.\n\nIn recent weeks, the University has been adversely affected by the Trump administration\u2019s freeze on federal funding, including freezing funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The University of Louisville currently has 167 active NIH-funded projects, totaling roughly $82.5 million of funding, according to the Louisville Courier Journal.\n\nIf House Republicans successfully cut Medicaid, the university could also lose over $100 million in funding, negatively impacting the School of Medicine and the university health system.\n\n\u201cUniversities are the backbone of a healthy and free democracy.
