(March 24, 2025) \u2013 Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) and Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) today announced that they have introduced a resolution expressing support for the NICU Baby\u2019s Bill of Rights, highlighting the need for family-centered care, informed parental consent, and improved resources for families with babies in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).\n\n\u201cMy twins spent 99 days in the NICU \u2013 my wife and I fought tooth and nail with our insurance company to ensure they got the care they needed. I\u2019m proud to introduce the NICU Baby Bill of Rights with Rep. Houchin to support parents and families as they navigate through one of the most difficult moments of their lives,\u201d said. Rep. Morgan McGarvey. \u201cAs a NICU parent, I know how important knowledge is when advocating for your family\u2019s care.\u201d\n\n\u201cFamilies with babies in the NICU are navigating some of the hardest days of their lives,\u201d said Rep. Erin Houchin. \u201cNICU parents should be informed and included in every decision about their child\u2019s treatment plan. We want parents to be supported and have a voice and presence in the NICU, including that critical first contact. We hope the NICU Baby\u2019s Bill of Rights will help ensure every baby receives the best care and has a fighting chance at life.\u201d\n\nEach year, over 380,000 babies are born early in the U.S., and many full-term babies with serious health issues also need care in NICUs. These families face emotional, financial, and medical challenges.
