McGuire III", "M001239", "mcguire.house.gov", "mcguire", "https://mcguire.house.gov/media/press-releases", "scraper", "LYNCHBURG, VA. \u2013 U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05), today announced the launch of the Congressional Art Competition for high school students in Virginia\u2019s Fifth Congressional District.\n\n\u201cMy favorite artist is my best friend, my wife, Tracy, so I am thankful that she is going to help lead the Art Competition,\u201d said Rep. John McGuire. \u201cThe winning artwork will hang in the Capitol for Members of Congress, constituents, and visitors from around the world to see. In Virginia\u2019s Fifth, we have so many talented artists in the community, and I am looking forward to showcasing the many talents of our constituents.\u201d\n\nEach Spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each Congressional District. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.\n\nStudents submit entries to their representative\u2019s office, and panels of district artists and art teachers select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their District and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.\n\nIf you intend to participate, please email your intention to VA05artcompetition@mail.house.gov. In the email, please include your full name, address, phone number, high school, and high school art teacher.\n\nPlease submit your intention to participate via email by April 21, 2025.
