David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-W.Va.) joined with the majority of his House colleagues to pass a bill to keep the government funded through December 15th, prevent a government shutdown, and defund Obamacare. We don't want to see a government shutdown, said Rep. McKinley. We just want to get spending under control by defunding or delaying Obamacare. Every day, more American companies are going to part-time workers and putting expansion plans on hold because of the devastating effect of the President's health care plan while keeping our economy in a slump. Employees are losing hours as a result. Obamacare is not what it was billed back in 2009 by the President and Democratic leadership. The bill passed today would fund the U.S. Government at current levels through December 15, 2013. It also includes a provision which requires the Treasury to make good on public debt payments should America reach the debt ceiling. The package will also include a number of other reforms to improve the economy. Next week, the House will consider legislation to increase the debt ceiling for one year, while also delaying Obamacare for one year. The vote we took today sends a strong message to the Senate: we're serious about reducing spending and defunding or delaying the President's health care plan, added McKinley. After hearing the majority of American people speak out against Obamacare, we're taking a proactive step to stop a health care law that is hurting American families and businesses. The House has acted and the ball is now in the Senate's court, said Rep. McKinley.
