David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-W.Va.) joined with other House colleagues in passing the No Subsidies without Verification Act which McKinley co-sponsored. This is yet another necessary fix to the train wreck we call Obamacare, said Rep. McKinley. What this legislation will do is require verification of income for individuals applying for subsidies. When enacted, this will verify that only people within the income limits are eligible for those subsidies unlike an honor system' which could cause billions in fraudulent payments. H.R. 2775 protects honest taxpayers and prevents fraudulent Obamacare subsidy claims by requiring accurate verification systems to be in place before subsidies are awarded. In July, the Department of Health and Human Services announced it would delay verification of qualifications for insurance subsidies provided by the Affordable Care Act, creating a system of self certification. This allowed individuals to apply for and receive subsidies without verification, leading to fraudulent claims. Taxpayers should not be on the hook for subsidizing health care for the wealthy, added McKinley. It is just common sense to verify that only deserving individuals would get help.
