Menefee (TX-18) released the following statement regarding the days-long power outage at the Rose Plaza Apartment Complex in Houston\u2019s Fifth Ward. While power has been restored to some units, approximately half of the complex remains without electricity.\n\n\u201cWhat\u2019s happening at Rose Plaza is completely unacceptable. In the middle of a Houston summer, families have now gone days without air conditioning and other basic necessities. That is dangerous, especially for our seniors and neighbors with health conditions.\n\nThe property owner has a responsibility to keep residents safe and to get this problem fixed as quickly as possible. Families should not be left sitting in the Texas heat for days waiting for their power to come back on.\n\nMy team is on the ground working to make sure residents are getting the help and resources they need. If you live at Rose Plaza and need assistance, please reach out to my office. We\u2019re here to help,\u201d said Congressman Menefee.\n\nBased on information available to the Congressman\u2019s office, the outage does not appear to be related to CenterPoint Energy\u2019s equipment. CenterPoint technicians visited the property last week to assess the situation, and the remaining electrical issues appear to be on the property owner\u2019s side.\n\nCrews are currently working to restore power to the remaining buildings. At this time, however, there is no estimated timeline for when power will be fully restored across the complex.\n\n\u201cThese are families, seniors, and children who have been without power, and they need help now. In Fifth Ward, we look out for our neighbors. That\u2019s what this community has always done, and that\u2019s what we\u2019re doing now. But Rose Plaza has a responsibility to the people who call this place home. They need to make this right, take care of these families, and do whatever it takes to help residents recover from what they\u2019ve been put through,\u201d said Sandra Edwards, President of the 5th Ward Civic Club.\n\nThe American Red Cross and United Way are providing relief to residents impacted by the outage.
