Luke Messer (IN-06) today spoke on the House floor ahead of the final vote on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which lowers taxes on middle-class Hoosiers, and updates Americas tax code for the first time in 31 years.\r\nMesser voted in the House today to send the bill to President Trumps desk.\r\nWith the passage of President Trumps tax plan, working Hoosiers will see more jobs, bigger paychecks, and a fairer, simpler tax code, Messer said on the House floor. The proof is in the paycheck, and the truth is an average Indiana family will see a tax cut between one thousand and two thousand dollars with this plan.\r\nMessers remarksandVIDEOof his speech are available below:\r\nMr. Speaker,\r\nToday is an exciting day for the people of Indiana. \r\nWith the passage of President Trumps tax plan, working Hoosiers will see more jobs, bigger paychecks, and a fairer, simpler tax code.\r\nThe scare tactics of my Democratic colleagues come from a tired playbook written decades ago. Its old-style class warfare politics, tired arguments that are just not true.\r\nThe proof is in the paycheck, and the truth is that an average Indiana family will see tax cuts between one thousand and two thousand dollars under this plan.\r\nLet me say that again: despite the rhetoric, working families will see a tax cut of between one thousand and two thousand dollars under todays tax plan.\r\nChild tax credits will double to two thousand dollars per child, the standard federal deduction will double too.\r\nWe get rid of the unpopular and unfair Obamacare individual mandate tax so now, Hoosiers will not be taxed depending on their healthcare decisions.\r\nJob creators will see tax cuts too, making Americas small businesses and Americas big businesses competitive in the global economy and better able to create good-paying jobs.\r\nAll of this is good news for Indianas working families.\r\nWith todays tax cuts, help is on the way.\r\nThank you, Mr. Speaker.\r\nI urge my colleagues to support this bill.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://messer.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=728"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8912249468266964, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
