The \u201cDiagnostic Lab Testing Transparency Act\u201d would require diagnostic laboratories to disclose three data points for clinical diagnostic laboratory tests included on the list of shoppable services specified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.\n\n\u201cI am proud that the \u2018Diagnostic Lab Testing Transparency Act,\u2019 passed the House,\u201d said Miller-Meeks. \u201cCurrently, patients can only see the prices for labs conducted at hospitals and not the prices for diagnostic services offered by competing independent labs. The \u2018Diagnostic Lab Testing Transparency Act,\u2019 supports consumer choice by expanding a patients\u2019 ability to shop for diagnostic tests and therefore compare prices. I am encouraged by the support of my colleagues, and I look forward to moving this legislation one step closer to becoming law.\u201d\n\nRead the full text of the bill here.\n\nBackground:\n\nThe \u201cDiagnostic Lab Testing Transparency Act\u201d was introduced in May 2023.\n\nThis section of the \u201cLower Costs, More Transparency Act\u201d package extends certain price transparency requirements to diagnostic labs. Specifically, this section requires labs to make publicly available the cash price and publish cash prices as well as the de-identified minimum and maximum insurer-negotiated rates for clinical diagnostic laboratory tests offered by the lab that are included on the list of shoppable services specified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).\n\nAdditional Information on the \u201cLower Costs, More Transparency Act\u201d Package:\n\nThe \u201cLower Costs, More Transparency Act\u201d empowers patients and employers to shop for healthcare and make informed healthcare decisions by providing timely and accurate information about the cost of care, treatment, and services.\n\nThe legislation lowers costs for patients and employers by requiring health insurers and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) to disclose negotiated drug rebates and discounts, revealing the true costs of prescription drugs.\n\nThe legislation lowers out-of-pocket costs for seniors who receive medication at a hospital-owned outpatient facility or doctor\u2019s office.\n\nThe legislation helps hospitals with Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments to ensure that they can continue to provide care for low-income communities.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T01:14:16Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://millermeeks.house.gov/media/press-releases/miller-meeks-diagnostic-lab-testing-transparency-act-passes-house"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.6127959825098515, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
