The bill, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, is the first major overhaul of the tax code since 1986 and it\u00a0was passed by the House of Representatives\u00a0on Thursday afternoon.\nThe legislation doubles the standard deduction for Michigan\u00a0residents. It goes from $6,000 to $12,000 for individuals and from $12,000 to $24,000 for joint filers.\nThe legislation increases the child tax credit for Michigan families\u00a0from $1,000 to $1,600 dollars.\nA Michigan family of four\u00a0making the national median\u00a0income of $59,000 would see a tax cut of over $1,000 when it pays its 2018 taxes in April 2019.\nCongressman Moolenaar made the following statement on today's vote.\n\"This is\u00a0tax relief for middle class families and Main Street. It will mean bigger paychecks, more jobs and a simpler, fairer system that closes loopholes.
