Mooney (WV-2) released the following statement on the publication of the Office of Surface Mining\u2019s Stream Protection Rule (SPR).\n\u201cThe Office of Surface Mining released its devastating Stream Protection Rule this week as a final parting shot on the coal industry by President Obama. I can assure the people of West Virginia that I will work with President-Elect Trump and the new head of the Office of Surface Mining next year to make sure that the so-called \u201cStream Protection Rule\u201d will not go into effect and further harm the coal industry,\u201d said Rep Alex \u00a0X. Mooney.\nThe National Mining Association released a study on the projected job loss impact of the Stream Protection Rule on the economy across the country. It is estimated that over 5,000 jobs in Western mining states will be lost due to the SPR, over 5,000 jobs will be lost in interior states, and over 30,000 in Appalachia will be lost due to this new \u201cStream Protection Rule.\u201d\nAlex X. Mooney represents West Virginia\u2019s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
