Mrvan. These projects were submitted in coordination with federal, state, and local units of government, nonprofit entities, as well as institutions of higher learning.\n\n\u201cI am grateful for the ability to advocate for the needs of Indiana\u2019s First Congressional District and deliver tangible projects that will have a positive impact for communities across our region,\u201d said Rep. Mrvan. \u201cThe inclusion of these projects in the Appropriations Committee is a reflection of my commitment to work to create good-paying jobs, invest in local law enforcement, and improve the quality of life for people in Northwest Indiana.\u201d\n\nCongressman Mrvan's requests included in the appropriations measures are specified below.\n\n$4,500,000 \u2013 Calumet Region\n\nFunding will assist with environmental infrastructure improvements to address critical water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater sewer infrastructure improvements designed to alleviate deteriorated conditions, increase the efficacy of existing systems, and improve water quality impacts.\n\n$2,700,000 \u2013 Indiana Shoreline\n\nFunding will be provided to the USACE to assist with the shoreline restoration within the Indiana Dunes National Park near Mount Baldy in Michigan City, and protect this incredible economic asset and environmental resource for Northwest Indiana from erosion.\n\n$922,000 \u2013 Burns Waterway Small Boat Harbor\n\nFunding allocated will allow the USACE-Chicago District to address the needs of Burns Waterway Small Boat Harbor in Portage, Indiana and support operations and maintenance. Improvements made will support economic development within the City of Portage driven by its proximity to Lake Michigan and the availability of the harbor.\n\n$1,026,000 \u2013 Michigan City Harbor\n\nFunding allocated will allow the USACE-Chicago District to address the needs of Michigan City Harbor and support operations and maintenance. Improvements made will support economic development within the City of Michigan City driven by its proximity to Lake Michigan and the availability of the harbor.\n\n$400,000 \u2013 Porter County Sheriff\n\nFunding will assist the Porter County Sheriff\u2019s office in its efforts to invest in equipment upgrades to increase and improve efficiencies in the apprehension of subjects, locate missing persons, and to reduce property crimes.\n\n$215,000 \u2013 Whiting Police Department\n\nFunding will assist the Whiting Police Department to obtain license plate readers to assist officers in their ability to protect the community.\n\n$1,000,000 \u2013 Gary Police Department\n\nFunding will assist the Gary Police Department to obtain body-worn and in-car cameras to assist officers in their ability to protect the community.\n\n$1,500,000 \u2013 St. Catherine Hospital\n\nFunding will assist St. Catherine Hospital pursue its Cardiovascular Catheterization Table Project. The advanced technology elevates the care and image quality the hospital provides for diagnostic and interventional heart and vascular procedures to residents in the community.\n\n$1,000,000 \u2013 Valparaiso University School of Nursing\n\nFunding will assist Valparaiso University College of Nursing and Health Professionals upgrade its Skills Lab and Simulation Modernization Project, which supports the effort to create a strong pool of trained medical technologists to serve the region\u2019s health needs while laying the foundation to address the greater health care professional shortage.\n\n$100,000 \u2013 United Way of LaPorte County\n\nFunding will allow United Way of Greater LaPorte County to initiate a Youth Mental Health-Substance Abuse Assessment, to better address unmet needs in the community.\n\n$4,000,000 \u2013 Gary Chicago International Airport\n\nFunding will assist the Gary Chicago International Airport expand and construct a heavy cargo logistics apron for multiple users.\n\n$2,360,000 \u2013 Portage/Central Avenue\n\nFunding will assist the City of Portage to pursue additional phases of its Central Avenue Reconstruction Project.\n\n$750,000 \u2013 Fair Haven/Acquisition and Renovation\n\nFunding will assist Fair Haven in its efforts to provide safe and stable housing for adults who are fleeing or attempting to flee from dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking.\n\n$310,000 \u2013 Opportunity Enterprises\n\nFunding will assist Opportunity Enterprises to acquire equipment and technology to enhance the quality of services provided through the Lakeside Respite Center, improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families.\n\n$1,525,000 \u2013 Paladin\n\nFunding will assist Paladin with the rehabilitation and repurposing of its facility, including accessibility alterations, modernization of classrooms to provide appropriate engagement activities to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ADA updates and sensory-friendly spaces to support the community.\n\nFor additional information on the appropriations measures, click here, and for additional information on Congressman Mrvan\u2019s requests, click here.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T18:20:25Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://mrvan.house.gov/media/press-releases/local-projects-included-house-representatives-appropriations-measures"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.1608551032841206, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
