Today,U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell(FL-26) applauded the passage of the two funding packages for Fiscal Year 2020, H.R. 1865 and H.R. 1158. The legislation provides $200 million for Everglades Restoration, extends and increases funding for Community Health Centers, and funds gun violence research for the first time in over two decades.\r\nEarlier this year, Mucarsel-Powell joined her South Florida colleagues in pushing forfull funding for Everglades Restoration. She alsochampionedincreased funding forthe Army Corps Environmental Infrastructure, which received $100 million in today's legislation. Additionally, this funding supports the Florida Keys Water Quality Improvement Program (FKWQIP), a crucial program that reimburses Monroe County as the Keys transition away from septic tanks. Also important to South Florida is the $3.1 billion funding for HIV/AIDS research. Furthermore, the legislation includes Mucarsel-Powell'sHumanitarian Assistance for the Venezuelan People Act of 2019, which provides for much-needed assistance for Venezuelans suffering from the worst humanitarian crisis in the Western Hemisphere.\r\nEvery week I come to Washington, D.C. and work with my constituents in mind, and the latest appropriations bills approved by the House of Representatives reflect the local priorities I have advocated for all year, saidMucarsel-Powell.
