Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after U.S. Secretary of U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke released\u00a0the final report outlining recommendations he made to the President on some national monument designations under the Antiquities Act.\n\u201cIn June, I shared my concerns with Secretary Zinke and the administration that no modifications should be made to the Hanford Reach National Monument,\u201d said Rep. Newhouse. \u201cI am pleased that after today\u2019s report by the Interior Department, this national treasure will continue to be open to public access for future generations to enjoy.\u201d \n\"The monument review was about hearing local voices and the people of Washington, along with Rep. Newhouse, made it clear where they stand,\u201d said Sec. Newhouse\u2019s recommendation on the Hanford Reach National Monument.\nBackground:\nPresident Clinton established the Hanford Reach National Monument in 2000, which includes the last free-flowing, non-tidal stretch of the Columbia River in the U.S., as well as a biologically diverse landscape and wide spectrum of scientific and historic objects. More than 10,000 years of human history are preserved throughout the monument and Hanford Reach is a treasure that merits the protection and preservation provided by its designation as a national monument.\nIn July, Sec. Zinke announced that the protected status of the Hanford Reach National Monument was no longer under federal review, and that no alterations were to be made to the monument\u2019s boundaries. The monuments were under review in accordance with\u00a0President Donald J.
