Congresswoman Williams previously introduced this bill in the 117th and 118th Congress.\n\nPeople rely on high-speed Internet for work, learning, and connecting with the community. The Home Internet Accessibility Act will gather information on all federally assisted housing that lacks the capacity to support broadband service and will task the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development with producing an action plan, including retrofitting homes, to close Internet service gaps across our country.\n\nCongresswoman Nikema Williams said:\n\n\u201cIn today\u2019s economy, reliable high-speed internet isn\u2019t a luxury, it\u2019s essential infrastructure\u2014it\u2019s a necessity. Families need it to work, students need it to learn, patients need it to access health care, and small businesses need it to compete. Yet far too many communities\u2014especially Black, Brown, rural, and low-income neighborhoods\u2014are still being left behind. My constituents have made it clear: too many families face unnecessary barriers simply trying to get connected at home. We cannot close the digital divide if we don\u2019t know where it exists.
