Ralph Norman (R-SC) introduced legislation to honor the bravery displayed by the Officer Brian Sicknick of the United States Capitol Police (\"USCP\") during the riots at the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021.\n\nEarlier this month, the U.S. Capitol came under attack from agitated rioters. They were met by the courageous men and women of the USCP. Even though they were outnumbered, officers such as Mr. Sicknick fought to protect every member of Congress, their staff, and other individuals inside the Capitol complex.\n\nThe bill to be introduced by Congressman Norman in the House would do the following:\n\n(1) Authorize the Capitol Rotunda on February 3, 2021 for memorial services and proceedings for Officer Brian Sicknick to lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda;\n\n(2) Ensure the placement of a plaque in the Capitol in memory of Officer Sicknick;\n\n(3) Allow the Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives to pay for necessary funeral services for the family of the officer; and\n\n(4) Direct any donations received by the Capitol Police Board as a response to the January 6th riots to be deposited into the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund. This fund was established in 1998 following the death of Detective John Michael Gibson and Private First Class Jacob Joseph Chestnut of the USCP and amended after the shooting incident at the practice for the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity on June 14, 2017.\n\nSen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is expected to introduce a companion bill in the U.S. Senate on Thursday as well.\n\nCongressman Ralph Norman issued the following statement:", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-06-27T22:35:07Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://norman.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=780"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.524526858702302, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
