Nunn. “We delivered permanent tax relief in the Working Families Tax Cuts and took burdensome reporting requirements off the backs of Main Street businesses, but there’s more work to do. Today, we heard directly from the people signing the front of the paycheck about what’s working and where Washington can get out of the way. I’ll keep working with Iowa small business owners, Republicans and Democrats alike, to lower costs, cut red tape, and make it easier to build and grow a business here at home.”

The Working Families Tax Cuts made the 20% small business tax deduction and 100% bonus depreciation permanent, allowing small businesses to keep more of what they earn and immediately write off investments in new equipment and other business assets. These permanent provisions provide the long-term certainty Iowa employers need to invest, expand, and create jobs. Rep. Nunn also secured permanent relief from Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements, lifting another federal mandate from Main Street businesses.

During the roundtable, the group also discussed how Washington can build on these wins by opening new opportunities for small businesses, keeping the cost of doing business down, and providing the certainty entrepreneurs need to compete and grow. Rep. Nunn has made cutting unnecessary red tape a priority, including passing his Protecting Small Businesses from Excessive Paperwork Act, which earned unanimous support in the U.S. House and gives small businesses greater flexibility to meet federal reporting requirements without facing unnecessary penalties.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, which is why the small business perspective is so valuable to lawmakers in Des Moines and Washington, D.C.,” said NFIB Iowa State Director Cody Carlson. “Representative Nunn has been a great supporter of Main Street and today’s event shows his commitment to addressing concerns like workforce development and inflation. We look forward to continuing our work with the congressman to ensure Iowa’s small business community can grow and thrive.”

“Not only is Iowa a national leader in agricultural output, but it also ranks in America’s top five states for manufacturing intensity,” said SBA Office of Advocacy Acting Chief Counsel Everett M. Woodel, Jr. “It was an honor to speak with and hear from so many inspiring Iowa small businesses, gain insight into the red tape they are facing, and share more about how the SBA Office of Advocacy is a resource for them as they navigate the regulatory environment. As Iowa leads the way, I look forward to continuing these conversations and elevating their voices to federal agencies in Washington, D.C.”

“Opportunities to speak with lawmakers like Congressman Nunn are invaluable for small business owners like me,” said Scott Turczynski, Founder of T12 Distillery. “Today’s discussion included issues like credit card swipe fees and overregulation. We also shared how Rep. Nunn’s support of the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction benefits our businesses. I’m hoping the Congressman will take what he learned at today’s roundtable back to D.C. as he continues to fight on behalf of Iowa and Main Street.”

“Iowa’s small businesses are creating jobs, investing in their communities, and driving our economy forward,” said Brad Zaun, SBA Great Plains Regional Administrator. “Today’s conversation was a great opportunity to hear directly from entrepreneurs and what they need to take the next step, whether that’s expanding their business, hiring another employee, or investing in new equipment. Congressman Nunn understands what Main Street needs to succeed, and the SBA will continue working alongside Iowa’s small businesses to help turn opportunity into growth.”

Photos from today’s roundtable are available here.

###", 1, "2026-08-20T05:28:41Z", "2026-08-20T05:29:58Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://nunn.house.gov/2026/08/19/nunn-hosts-small-business-roundtable-discusses-cutting-costs-and-burdensome-red-tape/
