The information leaked included names, birthdates, driver’s license numbers, addresses, and criminal histories. The data was removed the next day, but not until after it was downloaded multiple times.

“A full investigation into this matter is completely necessary to find out how and why this breach of privacy occurred in our state. California must do what’s right to restore public confidence in the state’s Department of Justice,” said Mike Garcia. “I’m personally calling on Attorney General Bonta to take responsibility and ensure that we’re taking necessary action to get to the bottom of this utter catastrophe by the California Department of Justice.”

“The concealed-carry permit data leaked by the California Department of Justice is an egregious mishandling of sensitive and private information. It has put countless people at risk across our state and especially in CA-08’s rural areas where 911 response times can exceed 45 minutes and where gun ownership is a part of the fabric of our culture,” said Rep. Jay Obernolte (CA-08). “It is critical that the California Department of Justice conduct a full and thorough investigation into this leak and take immediate steps to remediate the damage it has done.”

“This is a shocking betrayal of trust by state officials, whether through corruption or incompetence. We must absolutely get to the truth of what happened and develop any legislative solutions that will ensure gun owners and their rights are protected,” said Rep. Darrell Issa (CA-50).

“Californians deserve answers and accountability for this unprecedented and dangerous leak of sensitive information. Due to either incompetence or an intentional illegal act private data was exposed, putting law-abiding Californians at risk. Concealed-carry permit holders are entitled to their 2nd Amendment rights without being subjected to unnecessary risks and exposure. If the leak was indeed intentional, all Americans should be concerned that radical Democrats are willing to undermine our democracy and institutions by leaking sensitive personal information when they lose a political or policy battle,” said Rep. Ken Calvert (CA-42).

“This vast leak of personal information on Californians is dangerous and inexplicable. The inability to guarantee the confidentiality of residents’ personal information is a sign of utter dysfunction in state administration. A thorough and timely investigation is needed to discover what happened and what steps we must take to prevent any similar violations of Californians’ trust,” said Rep. Connie Conway (CA-22).

“The leak of concealed-carry permit holders’ personal information is unacceptable. We need to hold agencies like the DOJ to a higher standard for privacy if they are handling people’s personal data. I will continue demanding transparency and accountability on this outrageous breach of privacy,” said Rep. David Valadao (CA-21).", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T02:49:02Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://obernolte.house.gov/media/press-releases/california-republicans-demand-answers-ca-doj-concealed-carry-license-applicant
