Their courage will never be forgotten. I think it\u2019s also important to remember other attacks that were simultaneously carried out on Wake Island in the Pacific. They began on the morning of December 8th, and U.S. Marines and Naval men held the island for 15 days until fierce Japanese assaults forced them to surrender on December 23rd. The last message received from American soldiers manning the island said, \u2018Enemy on island \u2013 issue in doubt.\u2019\n\n\u201cOn this somber anniversary, I\u2019m thinking of Pearl Harbor and those who stepped up afterwards to defend liberty, sometimes in less noticeable ways.
