Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) voted in favor of the 21st Century Cures Act  legislation he was a cosponsor of  to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of life saving and life improving therapies. Approved by the House in a broad, bipartisan vote of 344-77, the bill is the result of a two-year effort to identify ways to streamline regulations and invest in research to help develop more critical cures and treatments. There are currently over 10,000 known diseases  7,000 of them rare  with only about 500 of them having FDA-approved treatments.\r\n\r\n\tIve met with countless families that are living the nightmare of having a loved one afflicted with a disease that has no cure, said Paulsen. By accelerating medical breakthroughs and finding new cures, more patients will be helped and mores lives will be saved.\r\n\r\n\tPaulsen recently spoke on the floor in favor of the 21st Century Cures Act. Video is available here.\r\n\r\n\tThe 21st Century Cures Act:\r\n\r\n\t Breaks down existing barriers to sharing and analyzing the growing amount of health data generated in research and clinical settings.\r\n\r\n\t Incorporates the patient perspective into the drug development and regulatory review process.\r\n\r\n\t Advances personalized medicine by providing guidance for the broader, more collaborative development, understanding and utilization of drug development tools for earlier assessment of how a particular therapy is working and on whom.\r\n\r\n\t Modernizes clinical trials by allowing greater use of patient generated registries, reducing duplicative paperwork requirements, and allowing researchers to better screen patients.\r\n\r\n\t Removes regulatory uncertainty for the development of new medical apps.\r\n\r\n\t Provides new incentives for the development of drugs for rare diseases by increasing the period of exclusivity for drugs treating rare diseases by six months.\r\n\r\n\t Creates a new coordinating mechanism to remove the choke points that slow innovation.\r\n\r\n\tCongressman Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of both the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus and House Wellness Caucus.\r\n\r\n\tFor more information on Congressman Paulsens work in Congress visitpaulsen.house.gov.\r\n\r\n\t###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://paulsen.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=22&itemid=1729"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.040959032252431, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
