(November 3, 2017) The U.S. House of Representatives today passed H.R. 3922, the CHAMPIONING HEALTHY KIDS Act, to fund the Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), community health centers (CHC), and other important public health priorities including additional Medicaid Assistance funding. This bill also includes a two-year funding extension for the Indian Health Service\u2019s Special Diabetes Program.\n\u201cPassage of this bill today is a vital step to providing essential funding for communities throughout New Mexico. CHIP, CHC, and the Special Diabetes Programs, specifically, aid highly rural and low-income communities by providing sole points of service for crucial child healthcare programs along with access to medical care that otherwise would be next to impossible to offer. The health and safety of New Mexican communities is directly related to the funding and continuation of these programs. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to get this legislation quickly enacted into law,\u201d stated Rep. Pearce.\nBackground  \n\tH.R. 3922 extends the Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for five years to provide health care to lower-income children. In 2015, this program was relied upon by more than 8.4 million children as a primary source of health insurance. This bill extends CHIP funding through Fiscal Year 2022.\nThis legislation also provides a two-year extension for community health centers that promote community-based, patient-centered healthcare to underserved communities. A two-year funding extension is also granted for the Indian Health Service\u2019s Special Diabetes Program for Indians, the National Health Service Corps, Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education, Family-to-Family Health Information Centers, the Youth Empowerment Program, and the Personal Responsibility Education Program.\nRep.
