Students have until November 1, 2017, to develop and submit their own desktop, web-based or mobile app\u2014a winning app from each of Maine\u2019s Congressional Districts will be chosen to receive national recognition.  \n\t\u00a0  \n\t\u201cI applaud how Maine schools are using STEM education to prepare our students for the jobs of tomorrow. \u00a0This competition is an exciting opportunity to put those skills to the test while learning how to develop the smartphone apps we use every day,\u201d said Pingree. \u00a0\u201cI hope students give it a shot\u2014I can\u2019t wait to see what they come up with.\u201d  \n\t\u00a0  \n\t\u00a0\u201cNever has it been more important for our students to have the practical experience to use and master digital technologies,\u201d said Poliquin. \u00a0\u201cThis program will give students across Maine the unique opportunity to broaden their skills and learn in a fun and competitive environment.\u201d  \n\t\u00a0  \n\tStudents can participate as individuals or in a team of up to four. \u00a0The apps can cover any topic. In addition to the app, students must submit a 1-3 minute video explaining their app and how it works.  \n\t\u00a0  \n\tSubmissions will be judged on 1) the creativity and originality of the app idea; 2) user experience and design of the idea\u2019s implementation; and 3) quality of coding and programming.  \n\t\u00a0  The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2017. Students can register for the competition here.  \n\t\u00a0  \n\tThe Congressional App Challenge is happening in Congressional Districts nationwide\u2014Members of Congress must choose to participate for students in their District to be eligible.
