Plaskett released the following statement on her appointment as honorary co-chair of the Congressional Black Caucus\u2019s (CBC) 52nd Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.:\n\n\u201cI am excited to join my esteemed colleague, Senator and Reverend Raphael Warnock as a co-chair of the CBC\u2019s 52nd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) this year. Each year, 2 members of the Black Caucus are tapped as the Co-Chairs and I am honored to be named by the Foundation as this year\u2019s Co-Chair. The Congressional Black Caucus\u2019s tireless work to elevate and advocate the themes of democracy, freedom, and culture, especially among Black Americans and people of color is embodied in this annual conference and I am humbled by the opportunity to play such an integral part.\n\n\u201cThe conference hosts over 10,000 participants and raises over $9M through the Gala Dinner and other sponsorships for scholarships, fellowships, and policy work. I am also happy to welcome Governor Bryan and numerous members of his administration to host the VI Government\u2019s first Meet and Match event at the conference\u2014an avenue for contractors (both local and stateside) to learn about contracting opportunities in the Virgin Islands firsthand from government agencies, including the Office of Disaster Recovery (ODR), the Office of Management & Budget (OMB), and the USVI Economic Development Authority (EDA) among others.\n\n\u201cAdditionally, I am proud to share that during ALC, the Congressional Caucus on Black Innovation (CCBI), of which I am co-founder and co-chair with my colleague Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10), will host the 2nd Annual Black Innovation Summit which will include a 2-part panel on the importance of empowering black innovators and creators.\n\n\u201cTo all my fellow Virgin Islanders joining us for the conference, especially those of you will travel to be present, I look forward to seeing you!
