Mainers deserve to know what is in the final text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.\nNow that the text has finally been released, I look forward to carefully reviewing the details of this proposed trade deal. Additionally, as I travel throughout the Second District, I look forward to meeting with Mainers and listening to their thoughts on the Trans-Pacific Partnership.\nThe following is the full text of the letter to President Obama:\n\nNovember 04, 2015\n  \n\tPresident Barack Obama  \n\tThe White House  \n\t1600 Pennsylvania Avenue  \n\tWashington, DC 20500\nDear Mr. President:  On October 5th, you announced that negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) had concluded. Your statement at that time noted, we can help our businesses sell more Made in America goods and services around the world, and we can help more American workers compete and win. We share those goals but believe if that is truly what the TPP will achieve it is time for the American people to have the opportunity to fully review the agreement.  Americans are rightly concerned about the secretive nature of TPP trade negotiations, especially given the significant economic impact the deal would have across many sectors of our economy. Just like TPP, past trade agreements were sold on their economic benefits. However, since the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement, thousands of factories have closed and millions of manufacturing jobs have been lost all across the U.S.\n Just 15 years ago, our country had more than 17.1 million Americans employed in the manufacturing sector. Today, that number has fallen by nearly five million. Given that the TPP has been sold to Congress and the American people based on its ability to change this trajectory and strengthen economic opportunity here at home, the American people deserve the chance to judge the full text of the deal for themselves.
