This bipartisan bill reverses President Biden\u2019s reckless cuts to our national security budget by authorizing $768.2 billion in funding for our military and provides a 2.7 percent pay raise for our troops. S. 1605 passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a bipartisan vote and now heads to the Senate for consideration.\n\n\u201cAs a former Navy JAG, I am proud to vote for this critical legislation that ensures our service members are well equipped to protect our nation abroad and take care of their families at home,\u201d said Reschenthaler. \u201cThis bill empowers our military to defend against malign threats from our adversaries, including Russia and China, holds the Biden Administration accountable for their disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal, and protects servicemembers\u2019 Constitutional rights. I am grateful to House Armed Services Republican Leader Mike Rogers for fighting for conservative priorities and rejecting radical progressives\u2019 attempts to reshape our military.\u201d\n\nReschenthaler advocated for the following provisions included in S. 1605:\n\nDefunding EcoHealth Alliance \u2013 Prohibits Department of Defense (DOD) funding from flowing to EcoHealth Alliance for research supported by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).\n\nBlocking deadly fentanyl imports \u2013 Includes the text of the Blocking Deadly Fentanyl Imports Act, which prevents countries that are major producers and traffickers of illicit fentanyl and fentanyl-like substances from receiving foreign assistance.\n\nHolding China accountable for their human rights violations \u2013 Prohibits DOD from purchasing goods from forced labor camps in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.\n\nFinding answers on the COVID-19 pandemic origins \u2013 Requires DOD to assess the involvement of the CCP in the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.\n\nProtecting Taiwan \u2013 Ensures U.S. support for Taiwan as China demonstrates increased military aggression towards our ally.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T20:37:48Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://reschenthaler.house.gov/media/press-releases/reschenthaler-votes-support-us-servicemembers-national-security"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4663999900221825, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
