October 1st was selected because NASA was founded on that date in 1958. Congresswoman Ross is a Member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee and represents much of the Research Triangle Park, a nationally renowned science and innovation hub that supports over 350 companies and 60,000 employees.\n\nCongresswoman Ross previously led a letter with Congressman Carey and introduced a resolution to officially designate a National Science Day.\n\n\u201cOn October 1st, the United States will celebrate the establishment of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1958,\u201d the lawmakers wrote. \u201cAmerican investments in science and technology have had a profound impact on national progress, economic growth, and societal well-being.
