Among other things, this bill authorizes the long-delayed Upper Ohio Navigation project, which involves the construction of new locks at the Emsworth, Dashields, and Montgomery (EDM) locks and dams along the Ohio River. Congressman Rothfus has been\u00a0leading\u00a0the effort in Congress to support the project, stressing its significance for Western Pennsylvania\u2019s economy. Earlier this year, Congressman Rothfus led a\u00a0bipartisan letter\u00a0calling on the Army Corps of Engineers to complete its feasibility study for the project, a prerequisite to the Chief\u2019s report\u00a0that was published\u00a0on September 12th recommending that Congress fund these necessary repairs.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cGetting this project authorized is a victory for Western Pennsylvanians. Reconstructing these aging Ohio River locks is essential to ensuring that our region remains an economic leader for generations to come,\u201d\u00a0said Congressman Rothfus. \u201cI am grateful for the bipartisan support I received from my colleagues in working to ensure this project gets done. I especially want to thank Chairman Bill Shuster, who worked tirelessly to support the Upper Ohio project.\u201d\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe EDM locks and dams form part of the inland waterway system that serves as a vital commercial transportation link for millions of Americans.
