So, making sure the money reaches our islands quickly and is used as it should be has been a priority ever since. Your congressional office met with Housing and Urban Development Department officials on June 6, the day the law was signed, and encouraged close cooperation with the Commonwealth government. A HUD team went to the Marianas later that month to get local officials up to speed. On Friday, I met with HUD for an update. CDBG-DR funds have been slow to get to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, struck by hurricanes in 2017.
