The STEM Educator Awards Equity Act expands the annual Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching so teachers from each insular area will be represented. Those selected receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation and participate in expert-led training and collaboration opportunities during their visit to Washington. Currently, finalists from the Marianas, Guam, American Samoa, and Virgin Islands are chosen as a group unlike the fifty states, Puerto Rico and Department of Defense schools. No teacher from the Marianas, for instance, was selected this year.
