Bernie Sanders on Sunday denounced the use of chemical weapons by Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, but he said Congress must focus on high unemployment and other problems at home while the United States works with the international community on the Middle East. \u201cThe calls that are coming into my\u00a0office are overwhelmingly\u00a0against getting involved in a\u00a0bloody and complicated civil war\u00a0in Syria,\u201d Sanders told Alex Witt on Sunday on MSNBC.\u00a0\u201cThe American people are\u00a0profoundly disgusted with the\u00a0fact that the United States\u00a0Congress continues to ignore the\u00a0enormously serious problems\u00a0facing the middle class of this\u00a0country; real unemployment close to 14 percent, youth unemployment even higher\u00a0than that., poverty at an almost all-time\u00a0high.\u00a0What the American people are\u00a0saying is that we were in war in\u00a0Afghanistan, we were in a war in Iraq, we've lost thousands of soldiers\u00a0and spent trillions of dollars.
