Congressman Sarbanes authored the legislation creating the PSLF program, which became law as part of the College Cost Reduction and Access Act in 2007.\nBy a vote of 19-20, Republicans voted down a bipartisan amendment to H.R. 4508, the PROSPER Act, that would have protected the PSLF program and expanded it to cover farmers, ranchers, veterans and military service organizations.\n\u201cThe failure of this crucial amendment represents an unnecessary and senseless attack on a bipartisan student loan forgiveness program designed to help our nation\u2019s service members, community health care workers, teachers, public defenders, social workers and other public servants,\u201d said Congressman Sarbanes, the author of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness law. \u201cI will continue to fight to protect PSLF as this bill moves forward.
