Students who receive a nomination are considered for appointment by the respective academy\u2019s admissions board.\n\n\u201cService academies provide exceptional opportunities for young Kansans to pursue higher education while preparing to serve our country as officers in the Armed Forces,\u201d Schmidt said. \u201cI encourage all qualified students who are interested in military service to apply.\u201d\n\nApplicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 17 years old but not yet 23, unmarried and without dependents. Applicants seeking nomination from Congressman Schmidt also must reside in the 2nd Congressional District.
