The NDAA is Congress\u2019 bill to maintain military readiness and increase national security. The legislation includes Rep. Schrier\u2019s amendment to improve child care for families of servicemembers so they can be dependably service-ready. It now heads to the Senate and then the President\u2019s desk to be signed into law.\n\n\u201cThis bill provides key investments to strengthen national security, support those who protect our country, and help defend Ukrainian democracy. Families across the country continue to feel squeezed by rising costs, and I\u2019m glad that the bill will raise pay and benefits for servicemembers,\u201d said Rep. Schrier. \u201cThe brave men and women who work tirelessly to protect our country have earned these benefits.\u201d\n\nRep. Schrier\u2019s amendment will help improve military families\u2019 access to child care. The Congresswoman worked with Washington State Military Family Childcare Workgroup, composed of representatives from the Department of Defense, military installations, Child Care Aware of Washington, Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington, YMCA of Washington, local school districts, and child care providers, on this amendment to help expand quality child care access for military families. \u201cChild care costs and access are the last thing our servicemembers should have to be concerned with,\u201d Rep. Schrier continued. \u201cIncreased data transparency will enable our partners at the state identify barriers and gaps in coverage to ensure our servicemembers and their families have access to affordable care.\u201d\n\nThe National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023:\n\nRaises pay for servicemembers and civilians by 4.6%\n\nIncreases the Basic Allowance for Housing by 2% for servicemembers and their families\n\nProvides additional support and assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces\n\nExtends the National Guard support to fight wildfires until 2029\n\nAllows the Department of Defense (DoD) to transfer aircraft to other departments to aid in search and rescue operations or emergency operations related to wildfires\n\nStrengthens the domestic supply chain for critical elements of microelectronics production\n\nCreates a pilot program focused on semiconductors in the National Defense Stockpile\n\nBoosts the number of available military civilian behavioral health providers\n\nRequires the DoD to implement recommendations for the timely clean-up of formerly used defense sites\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T03:32:05Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://schrier.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-schriers-priorities-help-servicemembers-veterans-and-military-families"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.8596891313791275, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
