Terri Sewell (AL-07) voted against President Trump and House Republicans\u2019 rescissions package which cuts $9.4 billion in previously enacted federal funding. The legislation eliminates federal support for public broadcasting and slashes funding for international development and humanitarian programs.\n\n\u201cRepublicans\u2019 massive cuts to health care and food assistance apparently were not enough,\u201d said Rep. Sewell. \u201cTheir latest bill defunds PBS and NPR, threatening educational programming for our children as well as independent journalism, local sports coverage, and emergency alerts. It also directly undermines our national security by slashing programs that promote global peace and disease prevention.\u201d\n\n\u201cThese draconian cuts do nothing to make life better for Americans,\u201d continued Sewell. \u201cThey only make us weaker, sicker, and poorer.\u201d\n\nThe rescissions package eliminates all federal support\u2014$1.1 billion\u2014for public broadcasting for the next two years. The cuts target PBS and NPR, threatening children\u2019s programming, journalism, local sports coverage, and emergency alerts.\n\nThe bill also cuts $8.3 billion from international development and humanitarian programs which support America's national security, promote global peace, and prevent global health crises from reaching our shores, including:\n\n$900 million for USAID global health programs promoting HIV prevention/treatment and family planning\n\n$361 million for United Nations international peace initiatives\n\n$437 million for UNICEF and the UN Women and Child Fund", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-07T01:08:28Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://sewell.house.gov/2025/6/rep-sewell-votes-no-on-trump-rescissions-package"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8629360236227512, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
