The bill improves the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system that pilots rely on for safety alerts during flights. The Senate version was introduced and championed by Senator Amy Klobuchar.\n\n\u201cI am pleased that the NOTAM Improvement Act has been signed into law by the President,\u201d said Congressman Stauber. \u201cThis bill is critical to improving the safety of our skies for pilots and passengers by bringing experts from across the air travel industry together to improve the NOTAM system. We must avoid another system crash like the one in January that grounded all domestic air traffic for the first time since 9/11, and this bill is a crucial first step.\u201d\n\n\u201cBy upgrading and modernizing the FAA\u2019s NOTAM system, this new law will improve aviation safety and prevent system outages from derailing travel,\u201d said Senator Klobuchar. \u201cTravelers in the United States deserve safe and dependable air travel service, not nationwide ground stops caused by system failures like we saw earlier this year. That\u2019s why as co-chair of the Senate Travel and Tourism Caucus, I\u2019m focused on strengthening our air travel infrastructure.\u201d\n\nThis new law establishes a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) taskforce to determine what improvements should be made to the NOTAM system, which alerts pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the flight.
