Haley Stevens voted to pass H.R. 1280, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.\n\n\u201cPassage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is a critical step to address the issues of police brutality and racial discrimination,\u201d said Congresswoman Stevens. \u201cThis bill will support additional training, community-oriented policing, body and dashboard cameras, and other measures to increase accountability and transparency for law enforcement. We have to pursue real reform to build a strong basis of trust between police departments and the communities they serve.\u201d\n\nThis bill will:\n\n\u2022 Prohibit federal, state, and local law enforcement from racial, religious and discriminatory profiling\n\n\u2022 Mandate training on racial, religious, and discriminatory profiling for all law enforcement.\n\n\u2022 Ban chokeholds at the federal level and allocates funding for state and local governments banning chokeholds.\n\n\u2022 End no-knock warrants in drug cases at the federal level\n\n\u2022 Require that deadly force be used only as a last resort and requires officers to employ de-escalation techniques first\n\n\u2022 Make it a crime for a federal law enforcement officer to engage in a sexual act with an individual who is under arrest, in detention, or in custody\n\nCongresswoman Stevens supported this bill when it passed the House in June, 2020.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T19:33:37Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://stevens.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-stevens-votes-pass-george-floyd-justice-policing-act"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0228331666439772, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
