Stevens", "S001215", "stevens.house.gov", "stevens", "https://stevens.house.gov/media/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed on suspension the DOE and NSF Interagency Research Act (H.R. 2980) led by Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI), Ranking Member of the Research and Technology Subcommittee on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. Co-led by Congressman Jim Baird (R-IN), the bill authorizes critical collaborative research between the Department of Energy and National Science Foundation on issues including quantum computing, foundational research, advanced manufacturing, and STEM education.\n\nThis is the second time in as many weeks that bipartisan legislation introduced by Congresswoman Stevens has passed the House.\n\n\u201cDOE and NSF represent some of our nation\u2019s most cutting-edge research activities supporting the innovation that we require to solve our most pressing issues and remain competitive on the world stage,\u201d said Ranking Member Stevens. \u201cThe work of these two agencies is critical to developing the solutions needed to our nation\u2019s most pressing issues. The CHIPS and Science Act, that I helped author along with my Science Committee colleagues, strengthens DOE and NSF, and aims to set them up for success in the coming years. To ensure that we are maximizing the impact of that historic bill, we must promote cross-cutting interagency research activities\u2014this bill will do just that. I was proud to join in leading this bill with my colleague Representative Jim Baird and I look forward to seeing this effort to the finish line.\u201d\n\n\u201cOperating in a silo is never the best practice, especially when conducting scientific research,\u201d said Congressman Baird. \u201cI\u2019m pleased the House is prioritizing interagency cooperation at the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation by passing my legislation directing them to coordinate regularly and share their findings.
