This was avoidable. For weeks, House Democrats have pushed Republicans to return to the negotiating table to address this healthcare crisis of their own making and reopen the government so federal workers can receive their paychecks, benefits like SNAP can resume, and programs like Head Start and LIHEAP can continue without disruption.
