This legislation would place a 1-year moratorium on the enrollment of farmland in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), which pays farmers to leave land uncultivated. After the 1-year moratorium, H.R. 8592 would prevent prime farmland from being enrolled in the CRP.\n\n\u201cIf this past year has taught us anything, it\u2019s that we need to secure America\u2019s food supply, not pay farmers not to farm,\u201dsaid Congressman Tiffany. \u201cWe cannot have a sustainable future if we have no food production.\u201d\n\nBackground:\n\nLast year, the Biden administrationexpanded the CRP in a \u201cgreen fantasy\u201d attempt to achieve net-zero emissions. The CRP is a program under the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that offers farmers 10- to 15-year payment contracts for taking some or all of their farmland out of crop cultivation.\n\nCongressman Tiffany\u2019sGRAIN for America Act would not impact farmland that is already part of the CRP.
